Adah Sharma Amidst Talent Powerhouses Juhi Chawla and Anupam Kher in 'Pri and Me'

February 21, 2011, (Sawf News) - Juhi Chawla and Anupam Kher play important roles in Adah Sharma's upcoming film 'Pri and Me,' a romantic comedy about two best friends.

Chawla and Kher are both Bollywood stalwarts with formidable talent, but relative newcomer Adah is not daunted to be in their midst, just thrilled.

"I'm really looking forward to shooting with Juhi Chawla. She's gorgeous and has such superb comic timing! The scenes I have with Anupam Kher too! I think it will be a riot on screen!" gushes Adah.

There is a good reason why Adah Sharma took her time before signing her second film 'Pri and Me,' despite a critically acclaimed debut performance in the horror thriller and box office success - 1920.

Adah was seeking substance and challenge in her roles, over paycheck and tabloid fame. She turned down big banner offers biding for the right role, in the process antagonizing some industry big-wigs.

Even as Adah waited for the right role, paychecks kept flowing her way from endorsements, because her obvious talent and delightful good looks weren't ignored by the more competitive and professional advertisement industry.
She featured in TVCs from Nokia, Olay and Joyalukkas Gold Jewelry, alongside Sharman Joshi, Katrina Kaif and Madhavan respectively.

Describing her role in 'Pri and Me,' Adah tells sawfnews.com, "Its a romantic comedy about two best friends. I play 'Pri' short for Priyanka."

Besides being thrilled about her talented co-stars, Adah is also excited about getting to play someone akin to her own real live character in Pri.

"I'm grateful I had a fantastic debut; I got to play such a strong character. Playing Liza was a lot of fun, but very difficult for me. I didn't really relate to a possessed girl from 1920. My character in Pri and me is very much like me in real life."

The film is expected to feature some pretty catchy music.

Nearing the end of our interaction, we wonder if there is more going on in this talented young girl's life? We risk asking. It turns out we are not wrong.

"I will be signing on with one more big brand soon," she says.

"I'm delighted that these brands are signing me on," she adds with endearing political correctness.

Something tells us she isn't finished, so we wait.

"There are two films that I will announce when we begin filming," comes the whopper!

Why is it that we are not surprised.

SRK and I rarely meet these days’

Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla’s friendship certainly goes a long way and one they have maintained all through these years. Although she hasn’t worked with SRK for a long time due to hectic schedules, she says that they were regularly in touch when they did do films together.
“Shah Rukh and I rarely meet these days. We both are so caught up with our own lives. While he is busy with his films, I am busy with mine. We were in touch when we were working together,” she says.
Juhi says that the last time she met SRK was during the IPL matches. They are business partners as Juhi and her husband Jai Mehta hold a stake in the Kolkata Knight Riders team. “The last time I met Shah Rukh was during the IPL matches. In the first few years, he was busy thinking about new strategies for the team: either making a new video, or different ways of marketing the team. He would come up with new ideas and it was he, who asked me if I wanted to be associated with it,” she adds.
However, it’s been a long time since Shah Rukh and Juhi came together for a film. “Given a chance they could come together again,” Juhi says. “One never knows,” she says. “We should get a script that will suit us. If offered a film together I would certainly like to do it,” she adds.

Think chirpy, vivacious; you think Juhi Chawla. Former beauty queen, successful actor and producer, a caring homemaker. The warm friendship she shares with King Khan is the envy of tinsel town. Juhi, her industrialist husband Jai Mehta and Shahrukh are co-owners of the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders.

We have been good friends forever. I like his simplicity. He works so hard, restless till he finishes the work on hand. We co-own Kolkata Knight Riders. Shahrukh is dedicated to cricket; so passionate about the team that he handles even minute details himself. I do not keep accounts of the films produced together, or the cricket team. I have total trust in Shahrukh, and know that he will do everything honestly and sincerely.
Being superstitious
If I am wearing a particular dress and sandals on the day our team wins, I will wear the same whenever our team is playing. I feel it brings good luck to the team and they will surely win.
Having friends outside the industry
I do not have friends in the film world. We are friends when we are doing a film — we meet, eat together, share jokes and do our job. After that, we lose contact; we meet again, exchange smiles and discuss random topics. My friends from school days, Vinita and Shabnam, are very close to me. They have always been there for me, through the many hiccups in life. They are like my shadow — piccha hi nahi chodti.

We are still friends. Not that we are enemies, but the friendship we shared during our first film Qayamat... didn’t last.
Co producing films
I liked the concept of My Brother Nikhil. In Onir’s I am a disco dancer, I am playing a character in one of the four stories that comprise the film. After working with Onir, I feel he is a genuine person. I decided to support him financially, and co produce the film.
On homosexuality
I feel that we are in no position to discriminate. It is an individual choice. I would not want anyone to interfere with my independent personality, or tell me what’s right and wrong. Similarly, we have no right to interfere with anyone’s preferences.
woman’s independence
Our urban background gives us the privilege of choosing our profession, and managing responsibilities at home. I don’t like any woman being called a doormat. I would like the women in rural areas to have the right to live independently as well. Everyday should be celebrated as Woman’s Day, why only one day??
Juggling a demanding career and personal life
Sometimes, I am surprised how everything falls into place. I am able to give ample time to my family and profession. Touch wood! I have not deprived any of them of my presence whenever needed. I presume I am God’s child.

Onir's I AM traveling to London Asian Film festival

I AM is already doing what it set out to - enlighten inform and heal. A tale of 4 stories woven together that takes audiences through issues and dilemmas that bruise the modern Indian society. The film unfolds many a tale of individuals struggling to find their identity, and uphold their dignity in a world that is callous, cold and unsympathetic.

The film was bestowed the David Flint Honorary Award For Promoting Human Rights, Awarded the Best in Asian Cinema (NETPAC) at the International Film Festival of Kerala 2010. Furthur, it went on to win the Audience Choice Award, Best Film, River To River Film Festival, Florence '2010 and was the opening film at the IVIEW Engendered Film Festival in NEW YORK Sept 2010.
If that wasn't all I AM is now traveling the world over before its release. After New York, Vancouver, Berlin, Florence, Hamburg, Sanjay Suri and Onir's I AM is traveling as the opening film to the London Asian Film festival.

If all go as planned Sanjay Suri and Manisha Koirala will be opening the film festival on the 18th of March in London.

Touching on subjects like sperm donation, child sexual abuse and homosexuality the film starring Nandita Das, Purab Kohli, Juhi Chawla, Manisha Koirala, Sanjay Suri , Rahul Bose, and Arjun Mathur also marks the full-fledged debut of directors Anurag Kashyap and Anurag Basu.

Sanjay Suri and Onir's I AM, the first crowd sourced mainstream Hindi film is co-produced by over 400 people from 35 cities across the world and comes to a theatre near you on April 22nd 2011.

Onir's 'I Am' to open London Asian Film Festival

Mumbai: Director Onir's I Am, a tale of four stories woven together that takes audiences through issues and dilemmas that bruise modern Indian society, will open the 13th London Asian Film Festival, starting on March 18th. Touching upon subjects like sperm donation, child sexual abuse and homosexuality, the film, starring Nandita Das, Juhi Chawla, Manisha Koirala, Sanjay Suri and Rahul Bose, also marks the acting debut of directors Anurag Kashyap and Anurag Basu.
Sanjay and Onir's I Am is an unique film as it has been co-produced by over 400 people from 35 cities across the world and comes to a theatre near you on April 22nd.
Other films to be showcased at the London Asian Film Festival, which ends March 27, are Cooking with Stella, Peepli Live, Gandhi, When Harry Tries to Marry and Pankh.

I AM Huge Success in Melbourne

I AM was screened as the closing film of the Melbourne Beyond Bollywood film festival. During the Q&A a member of the audience commented “when I bought the ticket for 20 dollars I thought it was highly priced, after seeing the film I am willing to pay double the amount”. The film has been a huge success in Melbourne.

On the Sunday 27th March 2011, Chak89 was visited by a special guest, Juhi Chawla. She just arrived from flight that morning and was on the road promoting her new film "I am" Directed by Onir. Which is also featured the In Tounges on Fire Film Festival at BAFTA Juhi's trip to London was for her to attend the Asian Women’s Film Festival, sponsored by Chak 89.
While At CHAK89 she ordered the Paneer which she throughly enjoyed so much she even requested for some to be packed to take with her She also did an interview for the hit new B4U show ‘Bollywood Showdown" with Raj and Pablo’ which also took place during Chawla’s visit. And even left her mark on the "Bollywood Showdown Wall" In the CHAK89 Restaurant.
Whilst at the renowned Chak89, several parties were taking place in the many elegant function rooms. Adding to the spectacle of each, Chawla made a surprise guest appearance, leaving party goers thrilled. Making time for her fans and signing autographs.
Chawla’s visit to London - and more specifically to Chak89 – was a great pleasure. An array of appetizing foods at a stunning venue was enjoyed by all.

Juhi Chawla is just one of the Long list of A list celebrities that have dined and worked with CHAK89 including the likes of SHAH RUKH KHAN, Jay Sean.

Джухи расстроена авиалинией, повредившей ее танпуру

Болливудская актриса Джухи Чавла была разочарованна, когда ей запретили пронести свою танпуру в качестве багажа на борт самолета, летящего из Сиднея в Мельбурн.

Актриса, которая находиться в Австралии, чтобы представить свой предстоящий фильм выпуск "I Am", берут уроки игры на этом инструменте и весьма предана этому занятию. Поэтому, она хотела сохранить в безопасности свой инструмент, но авиалиния настояла на маркировке багажа "хрупкое" и хранение его с остальной частью багажа, сообщил источник, не называя авиалинию.

Джухи согласилась, но была расстроена, найдя большое отверстие в инструменте после полета.

"Джухи очень трепетно относится с танпуре и была очень расстроена, увидев, что он - сломан. Однако, она вынесла это стойко и продолжила рекламную кампанию фильма," добавляет источник.

Фильм "I Am" выходит в Индии 22 апреля.
